Nordisk
Made for great adventures since 1901.Nordisk has been a company for the outdoor scene for many years - as long as there has been a scene, actually. We create outdoor equipment with outstanding functionality, quality and a build- in “hygge-factor”.
Nordisk story
Founded in 1901 Nordisk Feather was the first Danish company to focus 100% on down and feather. From simple trading to development of own products like duvets, quilts and pillows Nordisk Feather developed into one of the leading world wide players within the down and feather business.
In 1967 Nordisk Freizeit was founded as a subsidiary of Nordisk Feather focusing on the growing outdoor market. Through its own companies in Denmark, Germany, Sweden and the UK, Nordisk played a key role in the growth of the European outdoor sector in the 70’s and 80’s, under the brand name Caravan which was known for its innovative and fashionable products.
1991 the brand name changed to Nordisk, being true to our story and heritage. Today Nordisk is distributed throughout Europe as well as Asia.
Nordisk – a responsible Partner
Nordisk is a part of The Business Social Compliance Initiative BSCI, which is a leading business-driven initiative for companies committed to improving working conditions in the global supply chain. Here we are part of a network of more than 1000 companies, all working to improve the social performance of suppliers through protection of workers rights all through the value-chain.
How does Nordisk work with REACH?
At Nordisk we are working actively to reduce and eliminate the range of chemicals used in the products as well as in the production process. We therefore strive to ensure that the materials and chemicals used are as eco friendly and non-harmful as possible. From preparation of raw materials to actual production including the people engaged in it to the use of the products by the end consumer. In this work we have two main focus points.
The most pivotal is to reduce PVC in our production. PVC is a cheap, strong and stable material, but it can contain hazardous substances like phthalates. Therefore we work actively to reduce the content of phthalates to zero. Our second aim is to use recycled materials whenever possible.
Nordisk joins the UN in battle for Global Goals
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 goals for a better world by 2030. These goals have the power to end poverty, fight inequality and stop climate change.
We are excited to have joined the project, where Nordisk, Deloitte and the UN now work closely together to reach the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Design always plays a role
We believe that design without function gives very little meaning and that a well-designed product tells the story in itself, without many words, and will stay with you for a very long time.
